Modern Warfare

These past few weeks have surprised everyone, the attacks on Paris were a tragic event not only for France, but for nations worldwide. America reacted negatively towards the attackers and sympathized with France due to not only the loss of one of our students who attended Cal State Long Beach, but because the attack was simply uncalled for. Although attacking when “unexpected” is a great strategy when in war against soldiers, this was uncalled for and they attacked innocent civilians who were simply going through their daily lives. France’s response to these attacks however, was improper according to Machiavelli. France bombed an Isis compound in which they had received Intel of heavy activity taking place. According to Machiavelli however, discipline is more than fury. Fury drove France to bomb Syria in order to retaliate against Isis’ attacks this past weekend. In the process of doing so, France broke a national agreement that no location bombed must be in a close proximity of a museum, school, church, or hospital. The location bombed by France was located close to a hospital which was an imprudent decision as this could have turned people and support against them. Similar events took place when Russia attacked Ukraine some months back and destroyed civilian property even injuring some people. This caused a backlash worldwide as people began to go against Russia and defending Ukraine starting a global conflict that would have had many go against Russia rather than support them. As the images display, Ukraine was attacked heavily and left many people homeless and this cause a global outrage as it's imporper to attack civilians and have them under such conditions.

The Isis attack has started to ignite conflict and consideration of having a union of the nations aimed towards ending their reign. Already Russia has made an attack at other rebel groups after France had their attack. If France or Russia ends up going in a war with Isis whom are located in Syria, then according to Machiavelli, the United States should get involved. The United States involvement would not only have the nations helped owe us, but also keep them as allies which would allow us to maintain our power.
